Playing Career Beginnings

Capello began his professional football career in the early 1960s. He signed his first contract with SPAL for two million lire and made his Serie A debut in 1964 against Sampdoria. During his second season with SPAL, he contributed to the team's victory in the Italian Youth Championship. His playing career later included successful stints with Roma, Juventus, and Milan. Capello was known for his tactical awareness as a midfielder and earned 32 caps for the Italian national team, playing in the 1974 FIFA World Cup.

Coaching Career: Early Success with Milan

Following his retirement as a player, Capello quickly transitioned into coaching. He first took charge of AC Milan in June 1991. Under his leadership, Milan enjoyed a successful period, including reaching the final of the 1992–93 UEFA Champions League. Although they were defeated by Marseille, Capello’s tenure at Milan secured four Serie A titles and significantly influenced Italian football during the 1990s.

Real Madrid and Juventus Tenures

Capello managed Real Madrid twice. His first tenure began in 1996, during which he led the team to a La Liga title. Despite the success, internal disagreements led to his departure after just one season. He returned for a second spell in 2006, once again guiding Madrid to the La Liga championship before being let go in 2007.

Between his Real Madrid appointments, Capello joined Roma, managing the club from 1999 to 2004. In 2001, he led Roma to their third-ever Serie A title. He then moved on to Juventus from 2004 to 2006. Under his management, Juventus won two Serie A titles. However, these titles were later revoked due to the Calciopoli scandal. Capello’s contract with Juventus ended in July 2006.
