Geoffrey Boycott

Geoffrey Boycott was born on 21 October 1940 in Yorkshire, England. At a very young age, he started to play cricket and found it interesting. He wanted to be a cricketer when worn up and that's what he did all through his childhood. He was the captain of his team in his school as he played the best among his teammates. He started off as an all rounder but later focused more on batting as he was getting better at it. He started to play first class cricket with Yorkshire and performed very well in them. He was made the captain of the team just after two months after his inclusion in the team.

When at Yorkshire he played as an opener. He was known to be a hard hitting batsman and hit long sixes in the process. He was very strong and could hit every bowler for big sixes. After many impressive performances, he was selected in the under 19 cricket team and he soon started to make an impact in the team as he hit a century in the first match itself. He was known to be a very great motivator for the team as he led by example and always played well. He gave many impressive performances for him under 19 teams as well and he was chosen for his senior national team on the back of his impressive performances.

He made his debut in 1964 against a very strong Australian team. In his first match, he made 48 which was the top score of the team. Everyone knew a great potential that he possessed as he looked very charming and played well. Since then he has played for 18 years and scored more than 8000 runs which were the highest by any batsman at his time. It's still the sixth highest total by an England player.

Boycott has been known to be a very great player for the England team and is respected all over the world. He took 5 years away from the cricket as he thought he couldn't play the game anymore. Later in his autobiography suggested that he had lost any motivation to play the game and that is why he took exile. He came back stronger than ever and made many centuries in the process. He has had some controversy in his playing career as well.

In 1999 he was charged with a case by his ex-girlfriend who said that he beat her when she was in a relationship with him. He, however, didn't accept any of it and said it was fake. He got married to his longtime girlfriend in 1967 and has two children with his wife. After his retirement, he started as a commentator and has been very good at it since then. He currently stays in London with his family. He has been hailed by many as the best former cricketer ever. Hsi net worth is estimated to be around $40 million.
