Hikari Mitsushima

Hikari Mitsushima was born on November 30, 1985, in Okinawa City, Okinawa, Japan. Specific details about her parents are scarce, but she has two brothers, Shinnosuke and Kotaro, and a younger sister named Minami. From a young age, she showed a strong interest in music and performance. She attended the Okinawa Actors School, which has produced several well-known entertainers. Mitsushima began her entertainment career in her teens as a member of the musical groups Folder and Folder 5.

Early Acting Career and Breakthrough Roles

Mitsushima made her film debut in 1997 with a supporting role in the kaiju film Rebirth of Mothra II. Although this marked her entry into acting, her career began to take form around 2005. In 2006, she was cast as Sayu Yagami in the live-action adaptation of the popular manga series Death Note, as well as its sequel Death Note: The Last Name. These roles helped raise her profile in the Japanese film industry.

In 2007, she appeared in films such as Exte: Hair Extensions and Drop in Ghost. The following year, she appeared in Shaolin Girl, a martial arts sports comedy-drama. Her breakthrough performance came in 2008 with Sion Sono’s acclaimed film Love Exposure, in which her emotionally charged performance received widespread recognition and critical praise.
