Ian Mcshane is an English actor who is perhaps best known for his portrayal of saloon owner Al Swearengen on the Home Box Office television series Deadwood. Deadwood is an American Western television series set in Deadwood, South Dakota, that featured a large ensemble cast playing historical western figures such as Wild Bill Hickok, Wyatt Earp, Calamity Jane, and Charlie Utter. The show ran for three seasons and aired from March of 2004 to August of 2006 with thirty six episodes produced. Ian Mcshane was born on September 29, 1942, in Blackburn, Lancashire, England; his father was a Scottish footballer. Ian has had a prolific career that spans nearly sixty feature films and more than fifty years of work.
He won the Television Critics Association Awards for Individual Achievement in Drama as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor-Television Series Drama in 2004 for his role in Deadwood. Ian has been married three times; his first wife was actress Suzan Farmer. Ian’s second marriage, to model Ruth Post, produced two children but ended when Ian had an affair with actress Sylvia Kristel. He married his third wife, actress Gwen Humble, in 1980; the couple lives in Venice, California.
