Jackson Stewart

Stewart James Jackson is a British politician and a Member of Parliament for Peterborough, of the Conservative party. He served as a conservative party’s spokesperson at the Ealing Borough Council, between 1990 and 1998. A vice president of the Local Government Association, he is also a member in the Board of Management in the local New Local Government Network, and served actively between 2010 and 2013. Although he stood up for the post of parliamentary executive twice, he failed to get as many votes in both election campaigns.

Finally, he gained success in 2001 General election, and won with majority over the Labour Party. He was a former member of the Regulatory Reform Select Committee, in the House of Commons and was selected for Peterborough’s candidacy, by the Executive Council of the Peterborough Conservative Association back in 2007. In 2010 General Election, he won over the Labour candidate by majority and having appointed as the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in 2010, resigned from the post in 2011. In 2012, he was appointed for Commons Public Accounts Committee and was unanimously adopted again by Peterborough Conservative Association in 2013 and again in 2015.

Jackson was born on the 31st of January, 1965 in Woolwich, London, United Kingdom and raised in the south east of London. He was born in a middle class family, to working class parents and didn’t have any political connections. Born as the second of two children to Martha; a school teacher and Peter Jackson; a business person. Growing up in fairly easy conditions, he studied at the London Nautical School and later got transferred to Chatham House Grammar School, Kent. A very good student in his class, he didn’t have any particular extracurricular talents although he enjoyed playing football with his friends. After graduating high school, he went to study at the Royal Holloway, University of London and graduated in 1988 with a BA (Hons) degree in Economics & Public Administration.

With his direct speaking nature and a commanding nature, he was elected as the University of London Union’s president for a year between 1988/ 89. During his time there, he faced a no-confidence motion because of which he left the position. For further studied, he attended the University of West London from where he earned his Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management, as well as is a graduate member of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). After getting out of university, he worked as a banker, and served as a branch manager for Lloyds Bank, for nine long years. From branch manager, he went on to become the board member and Trustee of the London City YMCA, for 5 years. He also worked as the Business Services Manager, with Business Link in London.  

Regarding his personal life, he has been married with a Sarah O'Grady, from the July of 1999. Sarah, who serves as a Social Affairs and Property Correspondent with the Daily Express, were friends with Jackson’s friends and they came close later on. With more than 16 years of married life, the two of them are together and have a daughter, who was born in 2005.
