James Garner was known as an American actor and producer. He was most famous for playing Bret Maverick in the western series, Maverick.
James Garner was born on April 7, 1928, Norman, OK. He was the youngest of three siblings. He had a rough initial life as his mother died when he was of the tender age of four. When his father re-married, he got a stepmother who would abuse him and his brothers.
James met Lois Josephine Clarke at a rally of ‘Adlai Stevenson for President’ in the year 1956. Lois herself was a television actress. Both didn't expect that after merely two weeks, they would end up marrying each other. After the rally, they would meet over dinner day after day for weeks and those romantic meetings eventually converted into a marriage. James was completely fascinated by his wife. It compelled him to arrange a very expensive honeymoon which almost broke him financially. Lois had a daughter from her previous marriage named Kim. Kim was affected by polio but was recovering from it, at that time. James happily accepted Kim as a member of his family.
James and Lois had a daughter of their own named Greta. The couple loved each other a lot and there was no question of any of them having an extra-marital affair. James acted in many movies and television series opposite many women, but there was never any news of him betraying his wife to flirt with other women. The romance which blossomed between James and Lois was strongly known but they had their own share of tough times. They had experienced separations for long intervals.
When Garner appeared in an interview hosted by Rebecca Murray, he was asked if he argued with his wife. He said that although there were not very big and upsetting arguments, they had some mutual disagreements at times was regarding the children, James’ health and his work. He had his bouts of stress and would tell his wife that he wanted to go far away from everything. Once, he actually went away for as long as two years. Lois’ friends would advise her to divorce him, but she didn’t listen to them. And it proved to be the right decision because later James returned and they experienced the same depth of love for each other.
The fact that they celebrated 57 anniversaries of their marriage proved their unending love for each other. Sadly, James died of a massive heart attack barely a month before their 58th Anniversary.
