Jeff Teague

Jeffrey Demarco Teague was born on June 10, 1988, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Shawn and Carol Teague. His father, Shawn Teague, played college basketball at Missouri and Boston University, serving as a strong influence on Jeff’s early interest in the sport. The father-son duo frequently practiced together, laying the foundation for Jeff’s future career in basketball.

Early Life and High School Career

Jeff Teague attended Pike High School in Indianapolis, where he excelled as a basketball player. During his senior year, he led the Pike Red Devils to a 20–5 season, averaging 22 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals per game. These impressive stats earned him team MVP honors. National recruiting services took notice, with Rivals.com ranking him as the No. 9 point guard in the country and 57th overall prospect. He was also rated a four-star recruit by both Scout.com and Rivals.com.

College Career at Wake Forest

Following high school, Teague enrolled at Wake Forest University, joining the Demon Deacons. In his freshman season (2007–08), he averaged 13.9 points per game and was one of four freshmen to receive ACC Rookie of the Week honors. Rivals.com named him National Freshman of the Week during that season, highlighting his standout performances.

Teague’s sophomore season marked a turning point. He significantly improved his game, averaging 18.8 points, 3.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game while shooting an impressive 44.1% from three-point range. His performance earned him All-American honors—the first Wake Forest player to achieve that status since Chris Paul—and made him just the 13th All-American in school history. Teague became a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award, Bob Cousy Award, and Oscar Robertson Trophy. He was also a nominee for the Naismith Trophy. During the 2008 season, he scored his 1,000th career point, becoming the 45th player in the school's history to do so. He capped off his college career with a 34-point performance in a thrilling 92–89 win over North Carolina.
