Jeremy Hunt is a British Conservative Party politician, born on November 1, 1966, in Kennington, London, United Kingdom. He is the son of Admiral Sir Nicholas Hunt and Meriel Eve Hunt. Raised in the village of Shere in Surrey, Hunt received his early education at Charterhouse School, one of the UK’s prestigious independent schools.
He later attended Magdalen College, Oxford, where he earned a First-Class Honours degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE). During his university years, Hunt was actively involved in student politics and was elected President of the Oxford University Conservative Association in 1987.
Following his graduation, Hunt began his professional career as a management consultant with OC&C Strategy Consultants. He later moved to Japan, where he worked as an English language teacher—an experience that contributed to his interest in international affairs and language education.
In the business sphere, Hunt co-founded Profile PR, a public relations firm with a focus on information technology. Although the company enjoyed some initial success, Hunt eventually sold his stake before fully transitioning to a political career.
Jeremy Hunt entered the UK Parliament as the Member of Parliament (MP) for South West Surrey during the 2005 general election. As a member of the Conservative Party, Hunt quickly rose through the ranks and held several key cabinet positions.
In 2012, he was appointed Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, a role that significantly raised his public profile and attracted both support and criticism. During his tenure, he dealt with major issues, including NHS funding and junior doctors' contracts, and became one of the longest-serving health secretaries in UK history.
In 2008, Hunt met Lucia Guo, a native of China, while she was working at the University of Warwick. The couple married in 2009 and have since had three children—a son and two daughters. Hunt has publicly spoken about his cross-cultural marriage and family life, occasionally highlighting his ties to China in interviews and public discourse.
