Studies

He grew up in Suffolk, England. He then went to Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England to attend high school at Dean Close School. This is an independent day and boarding school. After finishing high school, he went to study at The University of Bristol. There he graduated with a degree in zoology. After that he went to make his postgraduate studies at the The University of Kent. Thanks to that he earned a teaching certificate in biological sciences.

First Job

His certificate allowed him to become a teacher. He started to work as a biology professor at a high school in the County of Kent, South East of England.

Fishing

The moment he moved to East Anglia, East of England and went in contact with the forty six miles long River Stour his passion for fishing began. He travelled to the Republic of India and visited its mountains rivers in 1982. Other overseas trips with him includes his travels to the Amazon and the Congo Basin.

Television Fame

His television debut was in 2007 when he starred in Jungle Hooks a Discovery Europe documentary series.

Then, in 2009 he started to work as the star of River Monster. This American- British Co produced documentary is produced by ITV Studios, Animal Planet and Discovery Channel. It is airing to this day on Discovery Channel, ITV and Animal Planet. It had a stop at 2013.The documentary show is about Jeremy Wade is going to different locations, learning about the locals stories and folktales in regards of the fishes from the area, and trying to catch these creatures.

A well remembered episode, back in the second season of the show, was when he managed to catch an enormous Goliath Tigerfish in his ventures on the Congo River in the continent of Africa.

With the crew of River Monsters he has travelled from Africa to Thailand, from the United States of America to Australia, from New Guinea to New Zealand, from Argentina to Japan, From Zambia to Botswana, from Russia to Mongolia, from Ukraine to Bolivia, from Colombia to Brazil, From Guyana to Canada, and finally to Fiji.

In all of their travels to so many beautiful locations, such as the Florida Keys, the Panama river, the Amazon river, the Okavango Delta, the Mekong River, Lake Champlain, the Amur River, the Zambezi River, the Okavango River, the Trinity River, and the Lake of the Ozarks. For his many years hosting the show he has come across such dangerous underwater and riverside creatures such as various species of caimans, piranhas, stingrays, the aforementioned tigerfish, sharks, alligators, catfish, gar, hippopotamus, pikes, egrets,surubi, eel, and Kaluga.

River Monsters gave him worldwide fame as it was and still is a huge hit with audiences of Russia, Argentina, Germany, New Zealand,Papua New Guinea, Brazil, South Africa, the Republic of Congo, Guyana, Mongolia, Australia, Uganda, Japan, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, Norway, India, Spain, Suriname, Ethiopia. Some of the countries with more viewership are those that have been featured on the show and are the home of some of these animals.

He is also famous for his ability angling, which is, of course, a way of fishing. It consists of fishing with a hook attached to a line and to the road. He is a self taught writer and has published books on angling such as the 1992 Somewhere down the Crazy River and the 2011 River Monsters.
