Professional Wrestling Career with the WWF

Following his military service, Ventura transitioned into professional wrestling in 1975. Competing under the ring name Jesse "The Body" Ventura, he gained national attention for his flamboyant style and charismatic presence. He wrestled with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF)—now WWE—from 1975 until health concerns forced his in-ring retirement in 1986. Despite retiring from active competition, he remained involved in wrestling as a commentator and personality.

Acting and Media Presence

In addition to his wrestling fame, Ventura carved out a successful career in film and television. He appeared in several popular action movies, including Predator (1987) and The Running Man (1987), where he showcased his larger-than-life persona. His media career expanded beyond acting, eventually encompassing writing, political commentary, and broadcasting.

Political Career and Reform Party Milestone

Ventura entered politics in the early 1990s and made headlines in 1998 when he was elected Governor of Minnesota. Running as a candidate of the Reform Party—a third party founded by Ross Perot—he became the highest elected official in U.S. history to win on that ticket. His term as governor lasted from 1999 to 2003, during which he was known for his unorthodox approach and independent thinking.

Continued Political Involvement and Media Work

Although no longer in elected office, Ventura has remained politically active. He is currently affiliated with the Green Party and has publicly considered a run for the U.S. presidency. Ventura is also the host of The World According to Jesse, an alternative news and commentary program that airs on RT America, where he discusses current events and political issues from a critical, independent perspective.

In recognition of his contributions to professional wrestling and sports entertainment, Jesse Ventura was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004.
