Domestic Career and Sheffield Shield Success

Joe Burns began to make a name for himself in first-class cricket during the 2010–11 Sheffield Shield season, where he played for Queensland. He scored a breakthrough 140 against South Australia in 2011, marking the beginning of his rise in domestic cricket. His consistent performances led to him becoming one of the top scorers in Australia’s first-class competitions in the following season.

As a result of his domestic success, Burns was selected for Australia A and impressed with a score of 114 in a one-day match against a touring England team. These achievements culminated in him being named the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year in 2013, an honor awarded to promising talent in Australian cricket.

Big Bash League and County Cricket

Burns continued to excel in T20 cricket as well, emerging as the top scorer for the Brisbane Heat during the 2012–13 Big Bash League (BBL) season. His performance was instrumental in helping the team secure a victory over the Perth Scorchers in the final.

His success in Australia attracted international attention, leading to a contract with Leicestershire in 2013, where he was signed as an overseas replacement for Ramnaresh Sarwan. Unfortunately, a hip injury cut his English county stint short, and he was forced to return to Queensland. He later served as deputy to Adam Voges at Middlesex during the 2015 English county season.
