Early Life and Education

John Yohan Cho is a talented American actor and musician, best known for his versatile performances across film, television, and theatre. He was born on June 16, 1972, in Seoul, South Korea. Cho spent much of his early childhood in Los Angeles, California, after his family immigrated to the United States. His father, a minister, was fluent in English, while Cho initially grew up speaking Korean.

Cho completed his high school education at Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale, California. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of California, Berkeley. While exploring his passion for performance, Cho began teaching English at Pacific Hills School in Los Angeles and simultaneously acted with the East West Players, a prominent Asian American theatre organization based in the city.

Acting Career and Breakthrough Roles

John Cho launched his professional acting journey in 1996 with a role in Edward Sakamoto’s play “The Taste of Kona Coffee.” His next notable appearance came in Euijoon Kim’s film “My Tired Broke Ass.” Though these early roles were modest, they eventually led to his film debut in the popular teen comedy “American Pie” (1999), where he played a minor character memorably dubbed “MILF Guy #2.” Despite the brevity of the role, it marked a turning point in his career and led to recurring appearances in the franchise’s sequels, including “American Pie 2,” “American Wedding,” and “American Reunion.”

Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, Cho took on a range of small but varied roles in well-known films such as “Wag the Dog,” “Shopping for Fangs,” “Yellow,” “American Beauty,” and “Bowfinger.” These included characters like Aide #3, Clarence, Joey, Sale House Man #1, and Nightclub Cleaner, showing his willingness to embrace diverse parts early in his career.

His breakthrough came with the cult classic “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle,” in which he starred as Harold Lee. The role brought him widespread recognition and led to sequels, firmly establishing him as a comedic and dramatic talent. In 2014, Cho starred as Henry Higgs in the romantic comedy television series “Selfie.” Although short-lived, the series added depth to his screen presence and demonstrated his appeal as a leading man in television comedy.
