John Frank Stossel was born on March 6, 1947, in Chicago Heights, Illinois, United States. He is an American author, columnist, investigative journalist, and television presenter. He has often referred to his older brother, who is a professor at Harvard Medical School, as the "superstar" of the family. Stossel attended New Trier High School in Illinois and graduated from Princeton University in 1969 with a B.A. in Psychology. He has described his attitude during college as “indifferent.”
John Stossel began his journalism career as a researcher for KGW-TV in Portland, Oregon. Prior to that, he had hoped to work for Seattle Magazine but was unable to do so after the publication folded. He later transitioned into reporting, despite initial challenges due to a childhood stutter. Over time, he adapted and became a familiar face in broadcast journalism.
In 1981, Stossel was hired by Roone Arledge to join ABC News, where he gained recognition as a correspondent for "20/20." Stossel hosted his Fox Business Network program Stossel from 2009 until its conclusion in 2016. The show examined current events and policies through the lens of free markets and limited government.
