Johnny Gill

Johnny Gill was born on 22nd May 1966 in Washington, D.C. United States.  He has three brothers and he started singing when he was young in church choir where he nurtured his singing talent. Together with his brothers Bobby, Jeff and Randy they were also members of their family gospel group named Little Johnny and “Wings Faith”. Gill is an accomplished songwriter, composer, record producer and a actor, he was the sixth member of the R&B group the “New Edition” also was member of “LSG” and currently he is in the “New Edition” WITH Bobby Brown and Ralph Tresvant.

Education

Johnny dream was to study hard and finish college so that he can become and electrical engineer. However, because of his successful singing career he would later decide to concentrate on his singing career. He attended Kimball Elementary later Sousa Junior High school and Duke Ellington School of Arts.

Career

At age of 17 years in 1983 Gill was convinced by his friend Stacy to record a demo which would later be found by the Atlantic Records president at that time. This earned him recording deal which enabled him to produce his fist album by Atlantic subsidiary. He later teamed with his friend Stacy Littisaw ad released album “Perfect Combination” followed by his solo “Chemistry”.

In year 1987 Gill was recruited by Michael Bivins to join “New Edition” to replace the lead singer Ralph Tresvant who was to leave pursue his solo career but later decided to stay. Together they release album ‘Heart Break”  and later the group would release very successful hits.

 For his solo career he released self titled album in 1990 with hit songs like “My my my”, Rub you the right way”, Fairweather friend” and Wrap my body tight”. Also in the year 1993 he released the album “provocative” with songs like “quiet time to play, a cute sweet, love addiction and I know where I stand”.  In 1993 he released his album “Let us get the mood right”.

Gill in 1997 collaborated with well know singers Gerald Levert and Keith Sweat to form the supergroup LSG which yielded multi-platinum debut album, Levert, Sweat, Gill.

Gill his also a actor who has appeared in films and television shows.  The tee=levision shows like “Family matters” and “You for me with movies like “Madea’s family reunion”.  Also in 2009 he played in stage play “A mother’s Prayer”.

Family Life

Gill appreciates his family upbringing for the fact that he was brought up by his both parents in a Christian value. He considers himself to have many children in his life including his nieces and nephews who fondly call him “Uncle Johnny”. Although he has a son Gill believes that raising a child in a distant relationship he regrets that he did not have relationship with mother of his son Isaiah. Gill believes that children should be raised by mother and father under one roof and not from two distant places where they meet for few days in a year. Through seeing his friends raise their children and grow to become great parents he believes that parents are great gift to their children.
