John Royce "Johnny" Mathis, better known as Johnny Mathis is a very popular singer and jazz musician. One of the biggest selling artist of the 20th century, he has released a number of hit songs and albums, with his appearance in some TV roles too. He is known to have performed in wide genre of music like Brazilian pop, soul music, blues, jazz, country songs as well as some disco songs that used to be fast and with high beat. He and his friends began their career as performers in weekend nights in local bars of San Francisco, and he was able to impress one of the owners of the Black Hawk Club. After recording as well as acting for MGM’s TV film Lizzie in 1957, he got his second acting role in A Certain Smile, which had a popular song of the same name. His songs had already made him famous, whereas the movies came as a booster, as he was soon seen in The Ed Sullivan Show. He was a very popular artist at that time, often called as "the velvet voice". 1958 was a big year for Johnny one because he started to live in California and two because his Johnny’s Greatest Hits album came to market. That album made it to the top of Billboard for almost 9 years, and his name was in the Guinness World Records. A professional singer/ actor, he is also a top class sports person, who almost made it to the Olympics Team of 1956 for high jump. He still has not lost his interest in sports, and plays golf at large. Also, he likes to spend time with his family and says he loves to “cook”. In 1982, he even published out a book named Cooking for You Alone.
