Before he became famous

Josh Brener is part of a Jewish family. He lived most of his youth in Houston, Texas. He attended Harvard University and he was since then known about his writing and acting skills. In an interview for The Harvard Crimson, Josh Brener said that he knows that after college he will be unemployed. He saw unemployment as a way to have enough time to do the things he loved – writing and acting.

He was the president of Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals. He used to write plays for this college organization. He used to collaborate with the improvisational group On Thin Ice (OTI).

Another activity that he used to do while college is working with Sunken Gardens Children’s Theatre. They would put up a show for kids every spring.

Acting Career

The road to fame began in 2009 when he acted in The Guy Who Cured Cancer and Sofia and Sam. During 2010 and 2011 he played Zack Miller, in the TV show Glory Daze. Between 2011 and 2013 he acted as Dale, in the world renowned TV show, The Big Bang Theory. He also starred in The House of Lies as Will Davis.

2013 meant a great year for Josh Brener. He got a chance two act in two great movies: Workaholics and The Internship.

As TV series actor, he plays Kyle in Maron (2013-present) and Nelson “Big Head” Bighetti, in the HBO series Silicon Valley (2014-present).

The Internship (2013)

One of the best opportunities that came for Josh Brener was to act in the success movie The Internship. It was produced in 2013 by Vince Vaughn and Shawn Levy in collaboration with some big-players from the movie production companies: Regency Enterprises, 21 Laps Entertainment, Wild West Picture Show Productions and TSG Entertainment. Josh Brener played Lyle Spaulding, a Google young manager that has to “teach 2 old dogs new tricks”.

The story is about two former salesmen, Billy McMahon (Vince Vaughn) and Nick Campbell (Owen Wilson) that got an internship opportunity at Google. Although they didn’t have any relevant experience, they were chosen due to their uncommon interview answers. The main duties of the new interns are delegated by Google managers. Whoever wins, will receive jobs at Google. All interns were divided in teams, in order to complete these tasks. Lyle (Josh Brener) is their manager. He is actually what the others call “a dork”, and this team is considered to be a “failure” team. Of course, the movie is about the trouble these two interns will get into, but also the unusual ways of fixing things.

Critics were not so open to this movie because it was considered to be a Google commercial disguised in a movie comedy. They had one nominalization, at Teen Choice Awards (2013), for Choice Summer Movie: Comedy.
