Katee Sackhoff is known as an American actress, most famous for her role as Lieutenant Kara "Starbuck" Thrace on the popular science fiction show Battlestar Galactica. For her performance in Battlestar Galactica, she was nominated for four Saturn Awards, winning Best Supporting Actress on Television in 2005.

Kathryn Ann "Katee" Sackhoff was born on April 8, 1980, in Portland, Oregon. She grew up in St. Helens, Oregon. Her mother's name is Mary, she works as an ESL Program Coordinator, and her father, Dennis, was a Land Developer. Her older brother's name is Erick, a co-owner of a vehicle modification shop near Portland. The future charming actress was very interested in sports in childhood and wanted to pursue a career in professional sports. She started swimming when she was very young. However, she was unable to continue to pursue her career in sports as she was injured in high school. Her right knee was seriously injured, so she started practicing yoga. Sackhoff graduated from Sunset High School in Beaverton in 1998. She attended Santa Monica College before deciding to focus on acting. She was a waitress at the Saddle Ranch Chop House before she began to take her acting career seriously.

Personal Life

Sackhoff and her Battlestar Galactica co-star Tricia Helfer co-founded the Acting Outlaws, a motorcycle-riding charity that has raised funds and publicity for organizations such as the Gulf Restoration Network, the Humane Society, and the Red Cross amfAR. Sackhoff is a health-conscious eater who has several films about her body, exercise and eating methods on her YouTube channel. She is not a vegetarian, but her diet changes depending on her training role, such as when she competed in the Hawaii Spartan Sprint Obstacle Race in 2019. In 2018, Sackhoff met Robin Gadsby in Vancouver, British Columbia. On Sackhoff's 40th birthday, the couple got engaged.

Katee Sackhoff first appeared in the TV movie Fifteen and Pregnant, in which she played a teen with a baby. In the Undressed TV series, Kate's first recurring role was Annie, based on sexual and romantic relationships. Her first full-feature motion picture debut was in My First Mister, playing the science fiction character Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace, which is her most notable role and for which she is still known and famous. She admitted to being addicted to the original Star Trek show, making her role on Battlestar Galactica much more meaningful. Tricia Helfer, her co-star in Battlestar Galactica, became one of her best friends. She played the female lead role in the sci-fi movie The Last Sentinel and was also the lead in the supernatural thriller White Noise: The Light, which won a Rotten Tomato Award, though critics praised Katee for her performance. She had a supporting role in The Haunting in Connecticut 2, and has also appeared in many other movies and TV shows, such as How I Married My High School Crush, Riddick, The Fearing Mind, Bionic Woman, and Robot Chicken.


Katee has a tattoo of a Japanese symbol which means 'choice', a crucifix on her left shoulder blade, and a Latin phrase on her right arm which means 'public property'. She also has two dogs named 'Meatball' and 'Nelly B', and she posed with her dog Meatball for a famous photographer named Frank Veronsky.


She is a vegetarian and was diagnosed with thyroid cancer after filming Battlestar Galactica. She underwent surgery for this and had a successful recovery.
