Kathy Bates is considered as one of the prolific actors in the American film industry. This multitalented actress and director born on June 28, 1948 in Memphis, Tennessee. After completing her graduation, she took education in theatre from Southern Methodist University. She took the membership of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and went to New York City in search of success in the film industry.

The early stage-acting career of Kathy Bates was the stepping-stone for her success in the film Industry. Her remarkable performance was visible in plays like ‘Night Mother’ for which she was nominated for the Tony Award. In the New York City, she engaged with the off-Broadway productions for further stage plays and acted in plays like ‘Frankie and Johnny’, ‘The Road to Mecca’ etc. Despite of her hardship, she got a few minor roles in TV serials and Hollywood movies. However, her fortune took a turn for her as she gets the chance of acting in ‘Misery’, a 1990 film that brought her the Academy Award for Best Actress. This sudden turn in her acting career has brought her in the forefront of new opportunities of work in some of the high profile Hollywood movies.

She starred in the 1991 greatly acclaimed and criticized comedy film ‘The Fried Green Tomatoes’. In the next two to three years, she was not involved in movies, but got the chance to work on some of the television shows. In 1995, she appeared in ‘Dolores Claiborne’ and featured in a short role in the record breaking and mesmerizing movie ‘Titanic’ that went on to collect more than $1.8 billion in box-office.

She got her second academy award nomination for her film ‘primary colors’. Further, she got several nominations for the Emma awards while able to win it for 2 times. Apart from doing successful movies, she starred in some of the successful television series like ‘Six Feet Under’, ‘Third Rock from the Sun’ etc.

As a successful actor, she learnt the act of directing and therefore, co-directed Television shows like ‘Six feet Under’, ‘OZ’, ‘Homicide: Life on the Street’, and ‘Have Mercy’ etc.  In 2012, she was seen in a guest appearance in ‘Two and a Hhalf Men’, which brought her the Primetime Emmy Award. Currently, she is seen in episodes of ‘The American Horry Story’. However, the vicissitudes in her health have caused damages in her acting career in the current stage. In the early 2003, she has been diagnosed with Ovarian cancer that somewhat prevents her from putting extra effort in her acting career. In 2012, She confirmed via Twitter that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer as well, which has restricted her activity in the film industry. 

His personal life is not fruitful as her professional life. In 1991, she was married to Ton Campisi. However, the relationship did not last long as the husband and wife divorced in 1997. Until then, she has not been involved in any other relationship as the entire focus shifts to her failing health.
