Education

Brock graduated from Pasco High School and later attended Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, laying the groundwork for a broadcasting career that would eventually bring her regional and national recognition.

Broadcast Journalism Career

Kathy Brock began her television journalism career in 1981 and steadily climbed the ranks in the industry. She worked for several local news stations, including KWSU-TV in Pullman, KBCI-TV in Boise, Idaho, and KUTV-TV in Salt Lake City, an affiliate of CBS. These early career experiences gave her a strong foundation in reporting and anchoring.

In 1990, Brock joined WLS-TV, the ABC-owned station in Chicago, where she would establish her reputation over a 28-year career. She became best known as the co-anchor of the station’s top-rated 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. newscasts, eventually working alongside Ron Magers. Brock was widely respected for her calm presence, journalistic integrity, and supportive role in transitioning major changes in the newsroom. She officially retired from WLS-TV in June 2018. Throughout her career, she was highly valued for her ability to draw in viewers, making her a key asset for every newsroom she was part of.
