Kell Brook, “The Special One”, is a British professional boxer who held the International Boxing Federation’s welterweight title from 2014 to 2017. Kell Brook was born Ezekiel Brook, on May 3, 1986, in the United Kingdom. Brook had his first professional fight when he was twelve years old. Brook’s amateur career had him winning thirty one of thirty six fights and winning tow Amateur Boxing Association of England titles. Brook first fought as a professional in 2004, facing off against seasoned journeyman boxer Peter Buckley in Sheffield. Brook won the fight and four others in 2004 to end the year with a record of 5-0. Brook fought for four years to a record of 16-0 before getting the opportunity to fight for the British title. Brook won his first title fight against Barrie Jones at London’s York Hall. The fight was somewhat controversial in that the previous belt holder had been disqualified due to injury and was unable to defend his crown. So Brook needed to face the former champ, Kevin McIntyre, in 2008.
He put McIntyre down three times in the first round on his way to a TKO and became undisputed champion. Brook maintained a flawless record for the first twelve years of his professional career as a welterweight but suffered a serious defeat in 2016 at the hands of Errol Spence Jr. which required Brook to undergo surgery for a broke eye socket.
