Kim Jones

Kim Jones is a famous American female athlete. She was born on May 2 1958 and has been a retired marathon and road runner. Born in Sonoma, California, Kim has had a bright and successful career right from high school running in categories like 400m, 800m and a mile. She won various state titles for the same. Her biggest inspiration was Joan Samuelson who was the winner of first women’s Olympic marathon ever. Kim ran her first marathon with a time of 2 hours and 48 minutes in 1984. She has faced various ups and downs in her career over a period of years.

Benji Durden, Kim’s coach, with whom she started training real soon after her first marathon of 1984. Benji was himself a well-known marathoner and had finished at second place in the famous Twin Cities Marathon on 1985. His time was approximately 2 hours and 36 minutes. Kim Jones stood 5th place in the 1988 Olympic Marathon Trials where her time on the board was 2 hours and 32 minutes. After 3 years, Kim delivered the best time of her lifetime at the Berlin Marathon which was 2 hours and 26 minutes and she bagged the second position in the competition.

The Berlin victory did help her become the third fastest woman marathoner during 1991. Her performance had been a spectacular one and her career shone real bright. She was one of the favorites to be qualified for the upcoming Olympics in 1992. She was also one of the most confident contenders to finish for a medal in 1992 Olympics until she broke her ankle just a few weeks before the Olympic Marathon Trials. This was a major downturn in her career which acted as a roadblock for her success. After a lot of training, she did compete but was unable to finish the race.  Following this, she participated in New York City marathon and just after that was diagnosed with bronchitis and took her almost more than a month to recover from her illness. She was bedridden for that period of time.

She has competed at various 10ks and marathons with her personal best at being 32 minutes and 23 seconds for a 10K run in the year 1989. Apart from that, she completed a half marathon in 1 hour and 11 minutes which another of her personal best times. In 1991, the world saw her personal best in a Marathon at 2 hours and 26 minutes. She gave her best time of 30K in 1986 at one hour 47 minutes.

She has been married to her husband, Jon Sinclair and currently resides in Fort Collins, Colorado. Kim and Jon have raised two daughters. Since she retired from competing in 1998, she has been with an online coaching service for runners called Anaerobic Management. She can also be seen at various road races as chief guest or a speaker at various fitness events and expos. She has a huge fan base on social media channels like Facebook and Twitter and often people confuse her with Kim Alicia Jones, sports reporter with NFL Network.
