Kim Khazei was born in Massachusetts, United States. She has one brother, Alan Khazei, who is known for his work in public service and civic engagement.
She attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from the highly regarded Missouri School of Journalism.
Kim Khazei began her career in journalism at KOMU-TV, the NBC-affiliated station in Columbia, Missouri, which is owned and operated in conjunction with the University of Missouri. She gained valuable experience in television reporting and anchoring during her time there.
She then moved to KQTV, an ABC affiliate in St. Joseph, Missouri, where she worked as an anchor for four years. In 1985, Khazei relocated to Champaign, Illinois, and worked with another NBC-affiliated station for approximately a year. She later joined KOVR-TV, a CBS-affiliated station in Sacramento, California, where she worked as an anchor and reporter. The mention of Chicago in this context appears to be a geographic error; Sacramento and Chicago are distinct cities in different states.
In 1994, Khazei joined WHDH-TV’s 7NEWS in Boston, Massachusetts, which was then owned by Sunbeam Television Corporation. She co-anchored several key broadcasts such as the 7NEWS Morning Edition and 7NEWS at Noon, where she worked alongside Cathy Marshall. She also contributed to the station’s Healthcast reports.
In 2001, Khazei took a voluntary departure from her role to focus on raising her family. She returned to WHDH-TV in 2007 and resumed her responsibilities as an anchor on 7NEWS.
