Kim Woo Bin, born Kim Hyun-joong on July 16, 1989, in Seoul, South Korea, is a celebrated South Korean actor and former model. From a young age, he aspired to become a model and began pursuing this path during high school. He officially debuted as a runway model in 2009 at the age of 20, walking in prê-à-porter events and Seoul Fashion Week collections.
While continuing his modeling career, Kim expanded into television commercials and began taking acting lessons under the mentorship of acting coach Moon Won-joo. This transition marked the beginning of his interest in pursuing a full-time acting career.
Kim Woo Bin made his acting debut in 2011 with the mystery drama series White Christmas, showcasing his ability to take on complex roles early in his career. His breakthrough came in 2013 when he appeared in two widely popular television dramas: School 2013 and The Heirs, which significantly raised his profile in the South Korean entertainment industry.
In the same year, he also starred in the film Friend: The Great Legacy, a sequel to Kwak Kyung-taek’s acclaimed 2001 movie Friend. His performance was well-received, earning him the Hana Financial Group Star Award—an audience popularity award—at the 51st Grand Bell Awards.
In 2017, Kim revealed that he had been diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer, a rare form of head and neck cancer. As a result, he announced a temporary halt to all acting activities in order to focus on his treatment, which included both chemotherapy and radiation therapy. He has gradually returned to public life since his recovery, participating in selected events and planning his professional transition back into acting.
