Kirsten Welker is the Whitehouse correspondent for NBC. Welker was born on July 1st, 1976 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born into a biracial family Welker has no siblings. Notably, her mother is an African-American and her father is white. Her parents are Julie and Harvey Welker. Interestingly, she attended Germantown Friends School where she graduated with honors in 1994. After that, she attended Harvard. In 1998 she graduated cum laude with Bachelor of Arts degree and a major in history. The step to a career in journalism was easy with such an impressive bio.
Career
Welker began as a researcher for NBC's "Weekend Today". She spent time as an assistant producer for “CBS Newspath”. While at KRCR-TV she began reporting as well as on-air anchoring. As a result, she took a job at WLNE-TV. Finally, in 2005 she moved to NBC 10. She also anchored the weekend newscasts at WCAU.
In 2010 she joined NBC. This caused her to relocate to Burbank, California. Additionally, she began as a news correspondent. Most noteworthy, within a year she was promoted to Whitehouse Correspondent. It became official in December of 2011.
She has traveled extensively with President and First Lady Obama Since December 2011. Welker has had the opportunity to travel both domestically and internationally. Most relevant is her coverage of the 2012 campaign trail. Welker's reports can be found on several news platforms. Most notably, "NBC Nightly News" and "Meet the Press". Consequently, in 2008 Welker was nominated for two Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards.
