Krystal Jung, professionally known as Krystal, is an American singer and actress primarily active in South Korea. She was born Chrystal Soo Jung on October 24, 1994, in San Francisco, California. Krystal was introduced to the Korean entertainment industry at a young age, making her first appearance in television commercials in 2002.
In 2006, Krystal joined S.M. Entertainment, one of South Korea's leading entertainment agencies. The company enrolled her in formal dance training, which she pursued for three years before debuting as a member of the K-pop girl group f(x) in 2009. The group quickly rose to prominence in the K-pop scene, known for their experimental music style and innovative performances.
f(x) released their debut studio album, Pinocchio, in 2011, which included hit singles that topped the Gaon Digital Chart, South Korea’s primary chart for digital music. By 2012, the group had achieved three number-one singles.
