LeSean McCoy

Early Life and Education

LeSean McCoy was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He earned the nickname "Shady" from his mother due to his frequent mood swings—he could be laughing one moment and upset the next. He attended Bishop McDevitt High School, the same school that former NFL running back Ricky Watters attended.

During his high school career, McCoy was a standout athlete. As a sophomore, he rushed for 406 yards in a single game. In his junior year, he recorded 2,828 rushing yards and scored 35 touchdowns. His performances earned him multiple honors, including Associated Press Class AAAA Player of the Year, the Mid-Penn Commonwealth Conference Offensive MVP, and national attention as a top college prospect.

College Football Career at Pittsburgh

McCoy played college football at the University of Pittsburgh. After recovering from a significant ankle injury in high school that briefly threatened his football future, he made an immediate impact in his freshman year (2007) by rushing for over 1,300 yards and scoring 14 rushing touchdowns—not 154, as previously misstated.

In 2008, McCoy continued to excel, rushing for 1,488 yards and 21 touchdowns. His performance earned him All-American honors and placed him among the top rushing leaders in the nation that season.

Philadelphia Eagles Tenure (2009–2014)

LeSean McCoy was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut against the Carolina Panthers and finished his rookie season with 637 rushing yards.

In 2010, McCoy was promoted to the starting running back position and surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark. The following year, he was named First-Team All-Pro by the Associated Press after scoring 17 rushing touchdowns and accumulating over 1,300 rushing yards.

Despite suffering a concussion in the 2012 season that sidelined him for several games, McCoy rebounded in 2013 to lead the entire NFL in rushing yards, totaling 1,607 by the end of Week 17. He also broke the Eagles’ single-season rushing record, which had stood for 34 years. McCoy later surpassed Wilbert Montgomery to become the franchise's all-time leading rusher.
