Lise Weil

Lise Weil is a translator and editor born in Chicago born. She is based in the city of Montreal from the year 1990. Her translation, essays and stories were established in many literary journals of Canada and U.S. She was the founder and also the editor for US Feminist Review called Trivia: Journal of Idea and of the online offshoot Trivia: Voices of Feminism. She is a founder and also editor for Dark Matter: Women Witnessing. She has a collection of Mary Meigs about aging and writings under the name Beyond Recall. She was the finalist of Lambda Literary Award and the translation she did for Doe a Deer of Verena Stefan, was selected to be used in Dalkey Archive anthology Best European Fiction in 2011. She is completing the memoir called In Search of Pure Lust.

According to her biography, she has a phd in the comparative literature of Brown University, she has an MA in the comparative literature of Brown University and she has a BA in the comparative Literature of Cornell University. She is an expert in the lesbian and queer studies, feminist studies, embodiment studies, translation and literature and environmental studies. She did creative writing in nonfiction, fiction with hybrid forms.

Lise Weil was called a recovering academic before and there is no much traditional academic that is being left in her now after being a teacher for Goddard for over 20 years. For the past nineteen years, she did Tai Chi and she was doing it with a Chinese Master who boasted that he did forty years in the research of the Tai Chi. In 1982, she founded the Trivia: A Journal of Idea and it was award winning radical feminist as both political and literary magazine and she was the editor for 9 years for the magazine. She says that she is not feminism because of the rights of women but she is against the toxic system of the fragmentation and domination which puts the women’s life in jeopardy. She moved to live in Montreal in the year 1990 and since she likes the experimental writing scene there. After spending in the city many years, she still loves it because of the mixture of the culture and languages with the café life.
