Lorraine Kelly is a Scottish television presenter and journalist known for her work on ITV Breakfast and Daybreak. Lorraine Kelly was born on November 30, 1959, in Gorbals, Glasgow, Scotland; her father worked as a television repairman. Kelly attended Claremont High School in East Kilbride and turned down an opportunity to study English and Russian at university so that she could work for the local newspaper, the East Kilbride News. Kelly joined TV-am in October of 1984 as Scotland correspondent. She became presenter for TV-am’s Summer Sunday program in 1989 and a main presenter of Good Morning Britain in 1990. In April of 1991, Kelly was awarded the TRIC Diamond Jubilee Award for New Talent of the Year. In addition to her television work, Lorraine Kelly writes weekly columns for The Sun and The Sunday Post.
She is a celebrity patron for Worldwide Cancer Research and Help for Heroes, as well as an honorary patron of The Courtyard, Herefordshire’s Centre for the Arts. Lorraine Kelly married her husband, television cameraman Steve Smith, in 1992. The couple has a daughter, Rose, born in 1994, and live in Berkshire, outside of London. In June of 2018 Kelly was awarded the Honorary degree of Doctor of Arts from Edinburgh Napier University.
