Breakthrough on The X Factor

In 2015, Johnson auditioned for the twelfth season of the British television talent show The X Factor. For her audition, she performed “Who’s Lovin’ You” by The Jackson 5—a choice she made due to the song’s vocal difficulty. Her powerful rendition earned a standing ovation from all four judges. She continued to impress during the competition, performing songs such as "Proud Mary" and "Lay Me Down" in subsequent rounds.

On December 13, 2015, Johnson was crowned the winner of The X Factor. At 17 years old, she became the youngest winner in the show’s history and the first female to win since Alexandra Burke in 2008.

Music Career and Chart Success

Following her X Factor victory, Johnson collaborated with British electronic music group Clean Bandit on the single “Tears,” released in 2016. The track achieved commercial success, reaching the top five on the UK and Scottish Singles Charts. It was later certified Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), cementing her status as a rising star in the UK pop music scene.

In November 2016, Johnson released her debut solo single, “So Good.” While not matching the same chart position as “Tears,” the track still performed well, peaking at number 13 on the UK Singles Chart and earning a Gold certification from the BPI.
