Education and Early Baseball Career

Hudson attended Fountain Valley High School in California, where he actively participated in athletics, particularly baseball. After high school, he played college baseball for the University of Tennessee. Although his college major has not been publicly disclosed, his athletic performance during his college years laid the foundation for his future in professional baseball.

Major League Baseball Career

Luke Hudson was drafted in the fourth round of the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft by the Colorado Rockies. However, he did not debut in the major leagues with the Rockies. His official MLB debut came on July 1, 2002, with the Cincinnati Reds.

After missing the 2003 season, Hudson returned to the Reds in 2004, where he posted an impressive 4–2 win-loss record and a 2.42 ERA in nine starts. The following season, 2005, was less consistent, with a 6–9 record and a 6.38 ERA. On March 9, 2006, the Reds released him, and just four days later, on March 13, he signed with the Kansas City Royals.

Kansas City Royals and Performance Struggles

With the Kansas City Royals, Hudson began his role as a relief pitcher before transitioning into a starting role. Although he faced challenges early in his Royals career, he eventually achieved modest success on the mound. However, one of the most difficult moments in his career occurred during a game against the Cleveland Indians in 2006. In that outing, Hudson gave up 11 runs—10 of them earned—while recording just one out. The Indians scored seven runs before the first out was made, marking a low point in his professional journey.
