Mary-Louise O'Callaghan

Life in the Solomon Islands

Beginning in 1989, O'Callaghan was based in the Solomon Islands for 25 years. Her long-term residence in the region deepened her understanding of Pacific affairs and informed much of her reporting. Her husband, Joses Tuhanuku, is a prominent Solomon Islander politician and trade unionist. The couple has four children.

In addition to her journalism, O'Callaghan served as a public affairs manager for the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI), contributing her media expertise to the multinational peacekeeping initiative that supported the restoration of stability in the country.
