Massimiliano Allegri

Playing Career

Allegri began his professional football career with his hometown club, Livorno. In 1991, he joined Pescara, where he established himself as a key player, particularly in the attacking midfield position. He was known for his technical ability and game intelligence.

Over the course of his playing career, Allegri represented several other Italian clubs, including Cagliari, Napoli, and Perugia. Eventually, he returned to Pescara before moving on to play for Pistoiese and later Aglianese. He concluded his playing career with Aglianese in 2003, retiring from professional football that same year.

Transition to Coaching

Following his retirement, Allegri embarked on a coaching career, starting in 2004 with Aglianese. His early managerial work showed promise and earned him an opportunity with Grosseto, although his tenure there ended in 2006 when he was dismissed.

In 2007, Allegri became the manager of Sassuolo. Under his leadership, the team achieved several notable victories and earned promotion to Serie B, marking a significant milestone in his early coaching career.

Success in Serie A and the Panchina d’Oro

Allegri took over as manager of Cagliari in 2008. While his tenure initially faced challenges, he eventually improved the squad's performance and received widespread recognition. His efforts culminated in being awarded the Panchina d’Oro (Golden Bench), given annually to the best coach in Serie A, in recognition of his achievements with a mid-table team.

Despite his growing success, Allegri was replaced as Cagliari’s manager in 2010. Later that year, he was appointed manager of Milan. During his time at Milan, he led the team to victory in Serie A and also won the Supercoppa Italiana.
