Matthew grew up in a respected and wealthy family. His mother Nancy Berry worked as a mayor of College Station, and his father Leonard Berry was a distinguished professor of marketing at Texas A&M University.

Matthew Berry entered to Syracuse University, and successfully graduated from it in in 1992. After the University, Berry moved to Los Angeles having a dream to become famous showman and TV personality. His efforts were not in vain, and he finally got a job of an assistant in an American sitcom The George Carlin Show, created by Sam Simon and aired on Fox.

On that position, he showed himself as a talented writer, so he was recommended to work with Warner Brothers Writer's Workshop as a scriptwriter. Apart from his work, he actively participated in different projects, appearing as a guest: Dancing with the Stars (2009), The League (2011) and Mike & Mike (2011 – 2015). For his dedicated work, Matthew won a lot of awards, including Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding New Approach, ‘’Fantasy Football Now’’. Five times in a row, he was a winner of a Fantasy Sports Writers Association Award and Podcast Award.

Berry met his future wife Beth Berry on ESPN, they have dated for a some time, and eventually they got married. In their long marriage, Beth gave a birth to their five children.
