Maya Jama is a British television and radio presenter who was born on August 14, 1994, in Bristol, United Kingdom. She has Somali heritage on her father's side and Swedish heritage on her mother's side. Jama began pursuing a career in television at an early age. As a teenager, Jama presented the weekly music video countdown on Jumpoff.TV in London. She then took a job working for Sky on TRACE sports before becoming a DJ on Rinse FM on weekdays. In August of 2014, Jama was hired by MTV as a presenter for "The Wrap Up". She also hosted a travelogue covering the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil called "Maya's FIFI World Cup Cities". Following her success as an MTV presenter and her FIFA show, Jama co-hosted the MOBO Awards on Channel 5 with Marvin Humes. Her career soon led her to the Saturday night game show "Cannonball" where she co-presented every Saturday night with Freddie Flintoff, Frankie Bridge, Radzi Chinyanganya, and Ryan Hand.
In 2018, Jama joined the staff of BBC Radio 1 where she works as a presenter of "Radio 1's Greatest Hits". Jama also became an ambassador for Savera UK in 2018 which operates across the United Kingdom to help individuals from black minority groups.
