Background

Michael Rubens Bloomberg was born on February 14, 1942 in the town of Brighton, located in Boston, Massachusetts. He was raised in a middle class family who taught him values that he needed to succeed in life.

He attended Johns Hopkins University and he paid his own tuition by taking out loans and working day jobs like the position of a parking lot attendant. He didn’t want to rely on anyone else for the cost of his education. After finishing college, he went on to attend Harvard Business School.

Career

In 1966, Michael was hired as an entry level intern by a Wall Street firm known as Salomon Brothers. Michael rose rapidly through the upper ranks at Salomon. His job required him to oversee equity trading and sales. He then worked with the firm’s information systems department.

Among many of his creative and financial projects, Michael R. Bloomberg has also served three terms as Mayor of the city of New York. Michael has a net worth that is estimated at $51.8 billion dollars. He is the 8th-richest person in the United States and also the 11th richest person in the world.
