Michael Schoeffling was born on December 10, 1960 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, as Michael E. Schoeffling. Michael graduated from Cherokee High School in New Jersey. He studied human sciences at Temple University and proceeded with his wrestling dreams which he started in his childhood.
As a developing college wrestler, Michael won medals in different national and global competitions. He won a gold for the US in free-form wrestling, as a member of the National Junior Wrestling Team in the European Championships held in Munich, Germany. His significant wrestling aptitudes were made light of as Kuch in Vision Quest, where he wrestled Matthew Modine, his teammate in the motion picture.
Career
When he was not sure what to do with his life, he moved to Europe and went all through the mainland for the following year and half. In the mid 80s, he started modeling for GQ. Photographer Bruce Weber paid for his acting classes at Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in Manhattan to get him started in acting.
