Early Career

Mike Brooks is a retired police detective. He had been working as detective in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department for 26 years. During his service as police detective, he served at the Federal Bureau of Investigation Joint Terrorism Task Force. He worked there for the last six years of his police service. He also served as instructor for numerous public safety sessions conducted at places like American University, George Washington University, FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, the Department of Justice, and the US Capitol Police department.

Career in Journalism

Mike Brooks started his career at CNN in the year 2001. He served as the terrorism and law enforcement analyst. He was a member of the team from CNN that reported on the September 11 attacks in the year 2001. He also works as an anchor and analyst in law enforcement at HLN in the shows Prime News and Nancy Grace. His reporting on the Anna Nicole Smith paternity issue and the massacre at Virginia Tech was well acclaimed.

Achievements

Mike Brooks also served as the senior instructor at the Security Specialties Division in the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Georgia. He also worked as the general manager in charge of abusive passenger and workplace violence program in Delta Airline’s corporate security department. He received the Proclamation for Heroism award from D.C. City Council in 1985 concerning his work in barricaded subject shooting at both the public and the police. He has also been honored with over 170 commendations from citizens, prosecutors, and law enforcement officials.

Mike Brooks’ illustrious career also includes a notable stint as assistant volunteer fire chief and EMT in Virginia at Fairfax County. His expertise in the field includes fire suppression, heavy ice and swift water rescue, and hazardous materials and structural breakdown. Further his work at FBI in the department of Evidence Response and Rapid Deployment Team involved assignments in the bombing of Khobar towers in Saudi Arabia, the bombing of United States Embassy in Kenya, bombing of the Olympic Centennial Park, and Pan Am 103 and TWA Flight 800 crashes. In the year 2005, he was asked to quit by CNN, but later on was re-inducted immediately by the network after it apologized for the lapse and agreed for fresh negotiations with him.
