Ming Tsai was born in 1964, March 29 in Newport Beach, California. He was, however, spending his childhood in Dayton. He was a student at The Miami Valley School. His parents owned a restaurant called Mandarin Kitchen and Ming was constantly helping his folks around the place. After reaching adulthood, Ming became a student at Phillips Academy. He later went on and joined Yale's mechanical engineering program which he finished. After finishing his Yale's studies, Tsai decided to finish his master's degree. He enrolled at Cornell University and became a student of hotel administration and hospitality. After being done with the schools in the USA, he decided to travel to Paris, France and start on his career as a chef. Le Cordon Bleu culinary school provided him with experience which he later used to become a professional chef.
Career
Ming first appeared on television during Sara Moulton's cooking program to fill her absence from the show. The chef decided that the best course of action for him was to start his own TV show and share recipes with the viewers. But this was not enough for the chef. In 1998, he had a long discussion with his wife and together they decided to open a restaurant. They called the place Blue Ginger. Ming Tsai was also a host of a cooking program East Meets West for five years. The show focused on a mixing from both Asian and European cuisine and what kind of dishes can be made when the two are put together.
He participated in numerous cooking competitions which were broadcasted on television but never won any of them. He did manage to reach a semi-final of Iron Chef, a competition hosted on the Food Network.
Besides his work in television Ming is also a published author. He wrote 5 books about cooking to share his experience and ideas he acquired during his long career as a chef.
Sports
While attending Yale University, Ming was a squash played and was considered to be a good one. While he was in culinary school in Paris, Ming played as a professional. After becoming a celebrity chef Ming Tsai has played squash against different sports personalities in various charity events or exhibitions.

Ming Tsai can speak four different languages. Besides English, he is able to communicate in French, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.
Tsai has a wife Polly and they have been married for a very long time now. The couple has two boys – Henry and David who were named after a famous writer David Henry Hwang. According to sources Ming Tsai is a descendant of Qin Shi Huang, a famous king of the Qin state.
