Nafessa Williams is an American actress who has appeared on the ABC’s soap opera One Life to Live and the CBS drama Code Black. Nafessa Williams was born on December 4, 1985, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Nafessa was raised in West Philadelphia and attended Robert E. Lamberton High School. She went on to study criminal justice at West Chester University.
Nafessa also was an intern in the homicide unit of the District Attorney’s Office. Nafessa Williams’ first role was in the film Streets (sometimes referred to as Meek Mill Streets) where she played the role of Nicole Gordon opposite of the Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill. Nafessa’s other film credits include Brotherly Love (2015), Restored Me (2016), Burning Sands (2017), and True to the Game (2017).
Television credits include One Life to Live, The Bold and the Beautiful, Twin Peaks, and Tales. Nafessa’s current role has her playing Anissa “Thunder” Pierce in the superhero show called Black Lightning. In a superhero universe that has been dominated by white, male characters, Annisa, who is a black, female lesbian, offers up a different idea as to what it means to be a superhero. Annisa has superhuman strength, but it is her constant battle against sexism and compassion for the community that makes her a fan favorite.
