Naomi Wirthner

Naomi Wirthner was born December 25, 1965 in London. She is African-Jamaican. She attended a private high school in London and currently lives in East Sussex. She participates in an active group of artists called the Barebones Project.

Directing
She has directed such works as THE RIVER by Jez Butterworth in 2015, FESTEN by David Eldridge also in 2015, ZOO STORY by Edward Aubee in 2014, The PINTER SESSIONS (The Lover + Dumb Waiter) in 2014, The McCLURE SESSIONS (Lone Star + PVT Wars) in 2012 and 2013, and AFRICAN GOTHIC by Reza De Wet in 2010 and 2011.
She directed The Night before Christmas by Anthony Neilson and staring Jim Pople, David Brett, David Tarpey, and Sophie Peplar. The piece centers around an elf who, if kept away from his work, might die. The Bare Bones Project description states: "The Night Before Christmas' is a hilarious anti-pantomime, a funny but ultimately warm-hearted cri de coeur against the Christmas industry, first performed at The Red Room, London, in December 1995."
In Yasmina Reza, Naomi directed Gary Wright, Jim Pople, and Laurie Wilson. The piece concerns "The value of ART and Friendship."

Naomi directed African Gothic by Reza de Wet and it has been performed four times in 2010 and 2011. According to the project synopsis, "It tells the story of a brother and sitser on an abandoned farm in the open spaces of South Africa. It is the tale of their survival. How they endured childhood and how their childhood games and rituals allow them to survive as adults."

Naomi's works encourgae introspection, appreciation, and curiousity of the human world and mind.

She has theatre credits in: An Evening at The Talk House, An Oak Tree, Marat/Sade and Fair Ladies at a Game of Poem Cards at the National; The Taming of the Shrew (tour), Have, Cymbeline, Measure for Measure and The Bite of the Night for the RSC; Splash Hatch on the E Going Down at the Donmar Warehouse; Madman of the Balcony at the Gate; States of Shock at Salisbury Playhouse; Sunday’s Children and The Wizard of Oz at Derby Playhouse; Top Girls at the Sherman, Cardiff; Three Sisters at Clwyd Theatr Cymru; School for Scandal and The Crucible at Pitlochry; Kes at Contact Manchester; and Tokens of Affection for Northern Studio.
In addition, she has appeared on television in: Fiona’s Story, Babyfather, Wycliffe, Soldier Soldier, Between the Lines and El Cid.
She has also performed on the radio in such pieces as: Caribbean Night, Anagonia, Running Dogs, Travels in West Africa, Ntombi: Morning Story and The Broughton Butchers. Her voice has also been used in commercials which are playable on her official website.

The Bare Bones Project
Naomi is the Director and Founding Creative talent behind the Bare Bones Project, a group of actors, artists, designers, and musicans who collaborate in East Sussex. With Jean Joubert in charge of Technical and Design, Charlotte Harvey as an Administrator, and Gary Wright managing the Design and Marketing, Naomi is surrounded by talent. Actors involved in the project include Jane Akawadike and Colin Brown, of African Gothic. Jim People, Laurie Wilson, Ella Yates, Zoe Crowder, David Pullan, Kim Wheatley, Jeroen Markies, David Tarpey, Sarah Jane Mckecknie, Manning Goodwin, Francesca Thesen, Elsie Mortimer, Lawrence Folland, Stephen Oliver also participate and worked on Festen. Dave Wright worked alongside her in Zoo Story.
Guests so the troupe have included: Martin Arrowsmith, Colin Brown, Brian Friel (sometimes regarded as Ireland's greatest living playright), Deborah Kearne, and Caryl Churchill.
