Early Life and Ancestry

Nonso Anozie was born on May 28, 1979, in Camden, London, United Kingdom. He spent much of his childhood in Lincoln, England. Of Igbo descent, he traces his roots to Nigeria and identifies with Black British ethnicity. Anozie holds British nationality.

Education and Theatre Beginnings

He trained at the prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama in London, graduating in 2002. That same year, he became the youngest actor to play the title role in Shakespeare's "King Lear." His early stage work also included a celebrated performance in "Othello" with the Cheek by Jowl theatre company in 2005, which earned him the Ian Charleson Award for outstanding classical stage performance by an actor under 30.

In 2004, Anozie gained international recognition by winning the Magnolia Stage Performance Award in China—becoming the first non-Chinese performer to receive the honor.

Film Career Highlights

Anozie made his film debut in 2007 with the role of Batiatus in "The Last Legion." He subsequently appeared in a variety of notable films including "Atonement" (2007) as Frank Mace, "Happy-Go-Lucky" (2008) as Ezra, "Cass" (2008) portraying Cass Pennant, and "RocknRolla" (2008) as Tank.

Additional film credits include "Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang" (2010) as Sergeant Jeffreys, "Brighton Rock" (2010) as Dallow, and "Conan the Barbarian" (2011) as Artus. He gained further exposure for his role as Jackson Burke in the 2011 survival thriller "The Grey." Anozie also appeared in "Ender’s Game" (2013) as Sergeant Dap, "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" (2014) as Embee, "Get Santa" (2014) as Knuckles, "Cinderella" (2015) as the Captain of the Guards, and as a bishop in "Pan" (2015).
