Olivia Longott, professionally known as Olivia, was born in 1981 in Brooklyn, New York. She is of Jamaican, Indian, Cuban, and Native American descent. From an early age, she showed a strong interest in music and began performing during her teenage years. Olivia attended Bayside High School in New York, where she nurtured her passion for music, and later enrolled at Five Towns College in Dix Hills, New York, to further her studies in the field.
Olivia became the first artist signed to Clive Davis' J Records. In 2001, she released her self-titled debut album, Olivia, which featured singles such as "Bizounce"—a track that reached No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100—and "Are U Capable," which charted at No. 55 on the Billboard 200. The album helped establish her as a rising figure in R&B music.
In 2004, Olivia gained widespread attention when she became the first female artist signed to G-Unit Records. She contributed vocals to G-Unit's debut album Beg for Mercy and featured prominently on 50 Cent’s multi-platinum album The Massacre, most notably on the chart-topping single "Candy Shop."
That same year, she released "Twist It," her first solo single under G-Unit Records, featuring fellow G-Unit member Lloyd Banks. In 2005, she followed up with the single “So Sexy.” Despite the collaborations and musical exposure, these singles received limited promotion and did not chart significantly.
