Career and Net Worth
Penny started her career back in 1977 as a feature writer on the "Peterborough Evening Telegraph." In 1984, she joined "Radio Trent" as a reporter/presenter, and then she worked for "Central Television" as the press officer for documentaries and drama. She then reported on current affairs for "Radio Television Hong Kong" while backpacking all over Central and South America and Southeast Asia. This happened before moving to "Sky News" in 1993.

Other notable positions in her television career include her work as a regular contributor on "The Alan Titchmarsh Show" and the "Friday Night Arts Show" on BBC Radio 2, filling in for Claudia Winkleman when she wasn't available. On March 26, 2016, Penny began presenting "Saturday Breakfast" on the new UK radio station "Talkradio."
The most significant part of her career has been on GMTV, where she began working in April 1993. Seventeen years later, in 2010, Penny gave a tearful farewell to the GMTV studio when she left the program. Her departure came as a result of GMTV's decision to begin a radical overhaul. Speaking before the show, Penny said: "It's an ideal time for me to say goodbye to early mornings. Now that the format has changed, I have taken the plunge, and I am moving on. Thank you to everybody who said nice things to me today. Thank you for supporting us. It's been great. My dressing room's awash with flowers!"
Penny has also been very active as a writer, and she has written for numerous newspapers and magazines nationally, including a beauty column for "Femail" in the "Daily Mail," and many articles in "Essentials" magazine, "Good Housekeeping," and "Woman and Home." Penny has also produced three yoga videos titled "Penny Smith's Power Yoga," "Penny Smith's Essential Guide to Yoga," and "Penny Smith's Yoga Masterclass."
