Peter was born on 29 May 1929. He was born in Newcastle in England in the United Kingdom. The name of his father is Thomas Higgs and the name of Peter’s mother is Gertrude Higgs. It is known that Peter’s father worked as an engineer and because of his father’s profession, he had to move home several times.
It is also known that he missed a few years of schooling because of the constant move. Later he got to attend Cotham Grammar School. Peter later went to the City of London School when he was 17 years old. He decided to pursue his career in physics so he went to Kings College in London. He also did masters in physics and he received his master’s degree in 1950. Since then he had been associated with much prestigious education institutes.
Peter is the father of Higgs field. He wrote many papers in regards to this theory and later after conducting several experiments, he was able to discover Higgs Boson particles. The experiment gave results in 2012 after CERN started the experiments. Until then, the technology was not developed enough to provide set up for such experiments.
Peter was also honored with a Nobel Prize for his contribution to atomic theories. He also many other notable awards such as wolf Prize, Hughes Medal, and Dirac Medal. Peter was also honored with Edinburg Award in 2011 and two years later he was also honored with Freedom of City.
It is also known that Edinburg University has a department which is dedicated to Peter. The department was set up to promote the students to study the field of physics and make amazing discoveries like Peter did. It is known that Nobel Prize was only given to him after CERN’s test. Peter has over 14 Honorary Degrees. His discovery of Higgs Particles is going to be very useful in understanding physics and formation of matter.
It is also known that Peter’s painting is there in School of Physics and Astronomy and the painting clearly depicts that he is the father of modern Physics. The Higgs particle was also named as God Particle but in an interview, Peter revealed that he is not happy with the new name of Higgs particle as he doesn’t want to offend the people who believe in the existence of god. There were several books written about the particles as well. Peter is known for sharing famous quotes and he is a man of great intelligence.
