Early Athletic Career at DuPont High School
Moss's athletic talents became evident during his time at DuPont High School. He was a standout player on the school's football team, leading them to back-to-back state championships in 1992 and 1993. Recognized as one of the top high school players in the country, he was named West Virginia Player of the Year and is frequently listed among the top 50 high school football players of all time.
In addition to football, Moss excelled in basketball and track. His versatility as an athlete was well-known; he was a state-champion sprinter and an all-state basketball player. Moss also participated in school debates and public speaking competitions, showcasing his broader range of talents.
College Years and Controversies
Following high school, Moss initially aimed to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. However, due to a legal issue stemming from a high school altercation, his scholarship was withdrawn. He then enrolled at Florida State University but was dismissed after testing positive for marijuana. Subsequently, Moss transferred to Marshall University, where he had a record-setting season and won the 1997 Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top wide receiver.
