Rick Astley is an English singer, songwriter, and radio personality who was born on February 6, 1966, in Newton-le-Willows, United Kingdom. He is the fourth child in his family but his parents divorced when he was five. When he was 10, Astley began singing in the local church choir and playing drums in a number of bands he created. Astley spent the rest of his youth growing up with his father until he found out that he had kicked his mother out of the house. From then on Astley distanced himself from his father. By the time he was 16, Astley was working as a driver for his father's business and also playing drums on the Northern club circuit at night. He played with groups such as FBI and Give Way which specialized in performing covers of Beatles and Shadows songs. In 1987, Astley released a single of his own called "Never Gonna Give You Up" which instantly became a hit.
In 2007, Astley became the focus of an internet phenomenon called "Rickrolling" where someone is pranked by clicking a link that says its something else but directs to Rick Astley's music video for "Never Gonna Give You Up". The song was uploaded to his official YouTube channel in 2009 and has amassed over 500 million views. Astley married Lene Bausager and had a little girl named Emilie in 1992. The family currently lives in Richmond, a suburb of London, England.
