Sarah Brightman

After leaving Phantom, Brightman went on to perform stage performances of Andrew Lloyd Webber's compositions internationally. During this time she also began to explore studio recording, with singles of her musical theater performances as well as a pair of solo albums, 1988's The Trees They Grow So High, followed the next year by The Songs That Got Away. As Brightman's studio career blossomed, her stage career came to a close, creating tension in her marriage to Andrew Lloyd Weber. In 1990, the couple separated, divorcing later that year. [7]

Studio Career

Partnering with Frank Patterson from the German new-age band Enigma, Brightman began a long string of successful studio album productions. Starting with 1993's pop album Dive, the partnership proved to be a commercial success, earning Brightman her first Gold record award in Canada. The pair followed up Dive with the modern europop-rock Fly in 1995, which only increased her standing as a performer in Europe. Her song, " Question of Honor" became a smash hit with European audiences when the song was premiered for the first time at a World Boxing Championship in Germany.[8] [9]

Her next album, Timeless(or Time to Say Goodbye in the United States) proved to be Brightman's most commercially and critically successful work, going multi-platinum and cementing Brightman as a crossover star. With over 1.4 million copies sold in the United States and more than 14 million sales world wide, it launched Brightman to a new high in international acclaim and success. A single from the album, a duet called "Time to Say Goodbye" sung with tenor Andrea Bocelli also became a smash international hit after the duo debuted the song at Germany's World Boxing Championship, eventually selling more than 3 million singles in Germany alone and millions more worldwide.

A number of successful albums followed, 1998's Eden, 2000's La Luna, 2001's Classics, and 2004's Harem. Most recently, Brightman released 2013's Dreamchaser, an album inspired by her plan to make a trip to the International Space Station. [10] [11]
