Sunny Hostin is an American lawyer, columnist, journalist, and social commentator who was born on October 20, 1968, in New York City, New York, in the United States. Hostin's mother is named Rosa Beza and she is from Puerto Rico while her father, William Cummings, is African-American. She spent her early years growing up in the Bronx, in New York City where she attended the all-girls school Dominican Academy where she became fluent in English and Spanish. Hostin went on to attend Binghamton University where she earned her B.A. degree in English and Rhetoric. She also earned a J.D. degree at Notre Dame Law School and began her career as a law clerk for retired Chief Judge of the Maryland Court of Appeals Robert M. Bell. Hostin went on to become a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division.

From there, Hostin went on to become a federal prosecutor who specialized in child sex crimes. Her prosecution of sex offenders earned her a Special Achievement Award. Her television career began when she got a job as a commentator for Court TV. She went on to work for the Fox News program "The O'Reilly Fact" where she sometimes debating its host, Bill O'Reilly. She then went on to work for ABC where she became a co-host of the ABC News morning talk show "The View". Hostin married Emmanuel Hostin in August of 1998 and had two children.
