Susan Downey 

Her passion for movies and filmmaking began at the age of 12, which made her decision to pursue higher education in film a natural one. She enrolled at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, one of the most prestigious film schools in the country.

Career in Film Production

Susan Levin began her professional career at Threshold Entertainment, where she contributed to projects such as Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, and the television series Mortal Kombat: Conquest. Her talent and dedication quickly gained recognition, leading her to executive roles at Silver Pictures and Dark Castle Entertainment. She became Co-President at Dark Castle and Executive Vice President of Production at Silver Pictures.

In 2002, she was instrumental in producing Ghost Ship, followed by Cradle 2 the Grave in 2003. That same year, she produced Gothika, a film that would mark a turning point in both her professional and personal life.

Marriage to Robert Downey Jr.

While working on Gothika, Susan met actor Robert Downey Jr. Despite his well-publicized struggles with addiction and legal issues during the 1990s and early 2000s, the two formed a romantic connection. Downey proposed to Susan on November 5, 2003, the day before her 30th birthday. They were married on August 27, 2005, in a Jewish ceremony held in Amagansett, New York.

Their relationship would evolve into a powerful personal and professional partnership. Susan is often credited by her husband as playing a crucial role in his recovery and resurgence as one of Hollywood’s leading actors.
