Susan now lives with her daughter in Manhattan. People think Blaise is lucky to have a soap opera megastar for an adopted mother but Susan thinks she’s lucky for having an amazing daughter.
Even though she no longer has an acting career to keep her engaged, she has found peace in her retirement. She no longer has to attend industry parties and events that would tire her out. She can now focus on creating a new chapter with her daughter. One of Susan’s favorite hobbies is traveling. She has traveled to many locations including Paris, Malaysia, Australia, and Egypt.
Having a role in the popular soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful was a huge accomplishment for Susan Flannery. Soap operas were reaching their boom period during the 1980s and 1990s. The main demographic for soap operas is housewives and the elderly. When more people were able to stay home during the daytime, television producers scrambled to provide programming and fill the gap.
Competing national networks decided to promote their own soap operas to fill the daytime slots. The Bold and the Beautiful was one of the successful shows that made it out of the battle. Susan was fortunate to have one of the important roles on a prominent television show. On The Bold and The Beautiful, Susan was beloved by the audience and TV critics for her portrayal as Stephanie Forrester. She also got a role on another soap opera called Days of our Lives.
In 1974, Susan won a Golden Globe Award for her role as Lorrie in The Towering Inferno. The award title was “New Star of the Year – Actress”. The award was special to Lorrie because it meant people were acknowledging and recognizing her ability as an upcoming actress. The Bold and The Beautiful has been an award-winning platform for Susan’s talents. She won an Emmy Award for “Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series” in 2000, 2002, and 2003 for the popular soap opera. That three-year run was the highlight of Susan’s career. She kept winning because of her strong character and intriguing storyline that captivated audiences.
Surprisingly, Susan did not get her first Emmy award on The Bold and The Beautiful. She won her first Emmy for her role on the Days of Our Lives in 1975. Even though she would not get her second Emmy until 25 years later, it was well worth the wait to win three times in such a short span.
After decades of acting, Susan decided to retire from the business. In her last episode of The Bold and The Beautiful, her character was written off the show with a tragic death. Her character died of cancer which made many of the show’s fans sad with tears. She had been a long staple on the show and was associated with many memories for the show’s audience. Some viewers commented that losing her was like losing a family member.
There was a biography published in 2014 which covered all the ups and downs she encountered in her life and career.
